Form Control
Custom styles, sizing, attention states, and other features can be used to modify textual form controls like <Inputs>
and <textareas>
.
<div class="mb-3">
<label for="exampleFormControlInput1" class="form-label">Email address</label>
<input type="email" class="form-control" id="exampleFormControlInput1" placeholder="name@example.com"/>
</div>
<div class="mb-3">
<label for="exampleFormControlTextarea1" class="form-label">Example textarea</label>
<textarea class="form-control" id="exampleFormControlTextarea1" rows="3"></textarea>
</div>
RESULT
Sizing #
Set heights using classes like .form-control-lg
and
.form-control-sm
.
<input class="form-control form-control-lg mb-3" type="text" placeholder=".form-control-lg" aria-label=".form-control-lg example"/>
<input class="form-control mb-3" type="text" placeholder="Default input" aria-label="default input example"/>
<input class="form-control form-control-sm mb-3" type="text" placeholder=".form-control-sm" aria-label=".form-control-sm example"/>
RESULT
Disabled #
To give an input a grayed-out appearance, stop pointer events, and prevent
focusing, add the disabled
boolean attribute.
<input class="form-control" type="text" placeholder="Disabled input" aria-label="Disabled input example" disabled/>
<input class="form-control" type="text" value="Disabled readonly input" aria-label="Disabled input example" disabled readonly/>
RESULT
Readonly #
To prevent the value of an input from being changed, add the
readonly
boolean property to the input. Disabled
inputs cannot be focused or selected, while read-only inputs can.
<input class="form-control" type="text" value="Readonly input here..." aria-label="readonly input example" readonly/>
RESULT
Readonly plain text #
To remove the default form field styling and maintain the proper margin and
padding, replace .form-control
with
.form-control-plaintext
in your form code if you want the
<input readonly>
components to be treated as plain text.
<div class="mb-3 row">
<label for="staticEmail" class="col-sm-2 col-form-label">Email</label>
<div class="col-sm-10">
<input type="text" readonly class="form-control-plaintext" id="staticEmail" value="email@example.com"/>
</div>
</div>
<div class="mb-3 row">
<label for="inputPassword" class="col-sm-2 col-form-label">Password</label>
<div class="col-sm-10">
<input type="password" class="form-control" id="inputPassword"/>
</div>
</div>
RESULT
<form class="row g-3">
<div class="col-auto">
<label for="staticEmail2" class="visually-hidden">Email</label>
<input type="text" readonly class="form-control-plaintext" id="staticEmail2" value="email@example.com"/>
</div>
<div class="col-auto">
<label for="inputPassword2" class="visually-hidden">Password</label>
<input type="password" class="form-control" id="inputPassword2" placeholder="Password"/>
</div>
<div class="col-auto">
<button type="submit" class="btn btn-primary mb-3">Confirm identity</button>
</div>
</form>

File input #
<div class="mb-3">
<label for="formFile" class="form-label">Default file input example</label>
<input class="form-control" type="file" id="formFile"/>
</div>
<div class="mb-3">
<label for="formFileMultiple" class="form-label">Multiple files input example</label>
<input class="form-control" type="file" id="formFileMultiple" multiple/>
</div>
<div class="mb-3">
<label for="formFileDisabled" class="form-label">Disabled file input example</label>
<input class="form-control" type="file" id="formFileDisabled" disabled/>
</div>
<div class="mb-3">
<label for="formFileSm" class="form-label">Small file input example</label>
<input class="form-control form-control-sm" id="formFileSm" type="file"/>
</div>
<div>
<label for="formFileLg" class="form-label">Large file input example</label>
<input class="form-control form-control-lg" id="formFileLg" type="file"/>
</div>

Color #
Add .form-control-color
to the < input >
and
type="color"
to the element. The modifier class is used to override
various browser quirks and specify fixed heights.
<label for="exampleColorInput" class="form-label">Color picker</label>
<input type="color" class="form-control form-control-color" id="exampleColorInput" value="#563d7c" title="Choose your color"/>
RESULT
Datalists #
You can establish a group of "options" that can be accessed (and autocompleted)
from within a "input" by using datalists. These are comparable to
<choose>
components but have additional restrictions on menu
layout. Although most operating systems and browsers offer some support for
<datalist>
components, their appearance is, at best,
inconsistent.
Learn more about support for datalist elements.
<label for="exampleDataList" class="form-label">Datalist example</label>
<input class="form-control" list="datalistOptions" id="exampleDataList" placeholder="Type to search..."/>
<datalist id="datalistOptions">
<option value="San Francisco"/>
<option value="New York"/>
<option value="Seattle"/>
<option value="Los Angeles"/>
<option value="Chicago"/>
</datalist>
